Families are packing hotels on Lee County islands NBC-2 by Michael Raimondi
LEE COUNTY, Fla. - People are packing hotels on Lee County islands.
Hotel managers said they are running out of rooms on weekends. With schools being pushed back, they say families
filled-up their rooms in August.
"Compared to what it was five months ago, you know it's a gangbuster now," Colony Inn general manager Michelle
Mathews said.
The Inn had to close for two months between March and May. Now, they're seeing their normal summer crowd, with more
families than normal.
"We were closed five months ago. Now, people are starting to get out and move around more. They are tired of sitting
at home and are coming to the beach," Mathews said Lee County Islands like Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach have mask mandates right now. Some people we talked to
say that helped them decide to visit the islands.
Most people staying at the Colony Inn are from other parts of Florida. Business owners are thrilled people are back
to travelling after the decline in revenue this spring.
