SANIBEL TRAVEL GUIDE From the CHICBEE BLOG
Sanibel is one of my favorite places to visit because of its beautiful serene beaches and family oriented atmosphere. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There’s no traffic lights on the island, it’s not very commercialized and at night you can see ALL of the stars. It truly feels like an escape! Read below for my recommendations on places to Stay, Eat and What to Do!
WHERE TO STAY
I suggest staying in Sanibel vs. Captiva Island just because theres more to do and is more convenient. Captiva is to far to bike to stores/restauraunts. When I’m not staying with my grandparents, I’ll be staying at the Colony Inn. I recently partnered with them over Thanksgiving when I was down there and its truly one of the CUTEST places to stay on the island. It’s in a perfect location (close to the beach, close to the bridge on/off the island, one block to shops/food and the lighthouse but far enough to feel like a true private getaway). You’ll have beach access (super easy 3 min walk) but can easily access the rest of the island via bike or car! plus theres a heated, fresh water pool with sun deck, coin-operated laundry, on-site grills and bike rentals, free WiFi and tons of shelling. I reccommend booking directly with the Colony Inn rather than through a third party site, and be sure to tell them I sent you! :)
WHERE TO EAT
Keep in mind most restaurants close by 9 or 10PM and the busiest times of day are from 12:00-3:30 PM. Here are some of my favorite places to eat on the island!
Island cow
Lighthouse cafe
Jerry’s
Doc Ford’s
Blue Giraffe Restaurant
Timbers
Sanibel Grille
Totally Baked (donuts)
Pinochios ice cream
Il Cielo:
THINGS TO DO
Given most of the island closes around 9:00PM, Sanibel is a VERY family friendly travel destination! If you’re in your 20’s and kid free, definitely plan to head to Fort Myers for a night out or two, but here are some of my favorite daytime activities!
Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve
Visit the Lighthouse
Bowmans Beach for sunset
Tarpon Bay Road Beach also good for sunset less crowded
Shelling on the beach
Biking around the island
Watching the sunset on the causeway
and of course shop!
FAVE PLACES TO SHOP
Fresh Produce
Chicos
Butterfly Beach
Perriwinkle Place Strip center with cute shops and dinning
Sanibel Outlets (off the island, just across the bridge)
Hopefully you found this helpful! If you visit Sanibel or any of these places, tag/send me you pics, I’d love to see!
